Where there's a will, there's a word

Should we actively seek God’s will for our lives, or simply accept whatever comes as from God?

There are some basic things we need to understand about the will of God.

For example, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us that God’s will is for us to give thanks in every circumstance.

This is a foundational principle, calling all believers to maintain a posture of gratitude towards God, regardless of their situation.

The Scriptures are also clear that it is God’s will for each of us to obey his Word.

Throughout Scripture, God tells us what to do and what not to do.

He shows us how to live.

He gives us the strength and grace to endure hard times, and it brings him great joy when we walk in his ways.

It is all there in his Word – the Bible.

Too many believers pray, as King David once did, “Show me (or teach me) your will” (Psalm 143:10), yet rarely open their Bible to discover what that will is.

Instead, they hope the Holy Spirit will speak out of the blue, but it does not usually work like that.

God’s will is revealed in and through the Scriptures.

Psalm 119:105 is clear: “Your word is a lamp to my feet.” So, if you want to know the will of God, get into his Word and trust the Holy Spirit to speak through it.
