Usyk praises God after beating Fury
Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will fight again after the heavyweights slugged out a boxing classic that split the UK and the arena judges.
Usyk, 37, became the first man to defeat Briton Fury in May, unifying the top-weight division titles with a decision from two of the fight’s judges, while the other gave the fight to Fury.
The split decision increased the urgency of Fury’s push for a rematch, with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chairman confirming a rematch on December 21.
For the first fight, in Riyadh, two judges scored it 115-112 and 114-113 to Usyk, with another going 114-113 for Fury.
The Briton hurt his much lighter opponent with an uppercut in the sixth, but looked defeated at the end of the ninth when given a standing eight count after a Usyk onslaught.
The defeat was the 35-year-old’s first in a 16-year career.
He was defiant in the ring after the decision, claiming: “I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority."
