Spiritual treasures are Trevoh's goal

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah values one experience in his sitting room above all his pitch-won silverware.

The Stamford Bridge centre-back has FA Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and England U19 European Championship winners’ medals – but none of them rival what happened one day in his own lounge.

He told the Ballers in God podcast: “I was doing praise and worship in my living room and it felt like the Holy Spirit coming from me. It’s indescribable.

“Take all the trophies I won, all the achievements, making my debut, take all of that away – that feeling there is the best feeling I’ve had in my life.”

Even coming from the masculine world of football, he’s not afraid to admit the effect it had. “I started crying. It got to the point I was crying. I was sat down and I could feel something. I’m saying thank you. I knew it was him.”

The 25-year-old, born in Sierra Leone but having represented England close to 60 times from U16 to U21 level, is enjoying a breakthrough season at Chelsea. At the start of the campaign he was loaned to London rivals Crystal Palace – playing alongside fellow vocal Christian and England star Eberechi Eze – but played so well at Selhurst Park that he was recalled by his parent club.

In a team full of megastars, Chalobah’s forced his way into Chelsea’s back four. He’s living the dream, but his focus is on higher things.

“When I was younger, I used to always think like, I want to be a footballer. Oh, I want that lifestyle, the money and the cars, being able to get any girls.

“For me, that doesn’t mean anything. That don’t bring true happiness. It’s not what life is about.”
