I love rival who beat me to gold
Christian para-athlete Karé Adenegan has spoken of her love for the fellow competitor who denied her gold at the Paris games this year.
Adenegan raced in the 100m and 800m in France this summer against fellow GB T34 sprinter Hannah Cockroft. Her compatriot won each of the races that Adenegan medalled in at the Rio and Tokyo Games – then repeated the feat in France.
But Adenegan, who added two silvers to her medals tally, focused on the positives of competition.
“It definitely spurs me on,” she told premierchristianity.com when speaking of what could have been a rivalry. “But it’s possible to love your competitors and be the best, to be fiercely competitive and do it for God’s glory.”
Adenegan, now aged 23, was BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2018 after setting a new 100m world record of 16.8s. She’s still among only a handful of sub-17s athletes in the world.
