Nick Sirianni holds the Super Bowl trophy aloft as Jalen Hurts, left, looks on

Head coach thanks Jesus for Super Bowl win

They soared like eagles, winning the Super Bowl – then gave God the glory.

The Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX, and head coach Nick Sirianni was the first to use his post-win interviews to praise God.

Sirianni told Fox: “Thank you, God, thank you, Jesus. God’s blessed us very much. He gave us all the talents to be able to get here. So first and foremost, thanks to him.”

It was the Eagles’ second Super Bowl win and, for Sirianni, the second final appearance in three seasons, in his fourth year as head coach, reversing defeat by the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

At one point, the Eagles were leading by 34 points. Sirianni added: “This is the ultimate team game. You can’t be great without the greatness of others.

“Great performance by everybody. Offence, defence, special teams, [Eagles GM] Howie [Roseman] getting us the guys, our coaching staff, these great players.

“All glory to God. He gives us these situations, and the talent to be able to coach football, and the opportunity, so just gratitude right there.”

For Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts it was an especially sweet victory, after playing one of the best games of his life in the LVII final, only to fall short by one field goal.

He cited the loss as a major factor in another superb final display, being named MVP for completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and adding 11 carries for 72 yards and another touchdown.
