Actress targets faith-based "meaningful content"
Christian actress Letitia Wright has revealed her mission to produce “meaningful content”, saying many faith-based films are poor quality.
Wright, the Marvel star of movies including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avengers: Endgame, has now helped make several productions of her own after launching 3.16 Productions in 2020.
The 30-year-old is also an executive producer. Her latest film, Angel Studios’ Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, is now out. It tells the true story of a pastor and his family in Possum Trot, Texas, whose decision to adopt two children ignites a movement in the town leading to 77 adoptions.
Wright said the film and her production company are based on a simple notion: “I try to keep the motto, or the ethos, of stories that have meaningful content with cinematic excellence. As long as it has meaningful content and cinematic excellence. God just guides me on how I need to do it.”
It’s much needed in the Christian film sphere, Wright told The Relevant Podcast.
“I’ve never really found movies that felt predominantly super, super Christian to be quite good. It’s been poorly executed. And that’s kind of a shame because we all carry the Holy Spirit. And then it’s like, ‘Why does the film look like that?’
“[The Chosen] did it with absolute excellence, and they have a huge following. And then God gets glorified for it.
