A time of overcoming and seeing God move

Imagine going on your first mission trip and preaching your first sermon. Or leading your first Bible study. Or running a youth night for the first time. These were some of the challenges facing eight teenagers and young adults when they went on mission in Estonia earlier this year. Group leader Grace Werth told Direction all about it.

Grace, how did you come to be leading this trip?

Elim Missions had linked up with Limitless because they want to relaunch a missional movement among young people. I love mis-sions and had done a lot when I was younger, so my husband Noah and I signed up to lead the team.

You had a pretty packed week there. Tell us what you did.

We took four young people from Penzance, three from Scotland and one from London and spent the week serving alongside local churches and missionaries. The team helped with preaching, worship, prayer walking, after-school clubs and much more. There were some very early 4.30am starts but they took it all in their stride!

That must have pushed them out of their comfort zones. How did the week stretch their faith?

They stepped out in faith to do things they’d never done before. One girl shared her testimony and had everyone in tears. One lad preached his first sermon. Another girl led her first Bible study. Together, they also led an Alpha, study groups, a worship night with the young people in one church and a youth evening at another. It stretched every one of them, but it was a real time of overcoming and seeing God move.

You and Noah decided to take your kids too. How did they get involved?

I hadn’t been planning to take our kids until I heard someone speak about doing mission as a family. Our kids are twelve, ten and six and they blew me away. They became part of the team, doing the prayer walks and hearing from God.
