
Wrestling shock after submission to God
A Christian wrestler meditated all week on the story of David and Goliath – then stunned the sport by beating a national champion and Olympic gold medallist in what’s been described as one of the biggest upsets in wrestling history.
Wyatt Hendrickson took on much-fancied Gable Steveson in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships 285-pound heavyweight final.
Steveson was unbeaten at the college level since 2019, a 73-match winning run, including an 18-2 win over Hendrickson.
But the unfancied wrestler had a special weapon, telling ESPN moments after his win: “God gifted me. All week I’ve been looking at David and Goliath, and no one thought David could take down Goliath, but I did.
“David had a vision of victory before he stepped out, and I kind of carried that with me all week.”
