JOELINTON – NEWCASTLE’S BORN-AGAIN BALLER
Brazilian midfielder Joelinton has undergone a transformation – and we’re not just talking about his playing position.
Since Eddie Howe’s arrival at Newcastle, Joelinton has been reborn as a midfield powerhouse. But few fans know the Toon favourite is also a born-again Christian who gives all credit to his faith.
“I believe everything I have is because of Jesus,” he told a Brazilian podcast. “When things were hard, I prayed. When they got better, I praised.”
He’s part of a growing movement of Christian footballers from Brazil bringing their faith to the Premier League – and sharing it proudly.
ALISSON – LIVERPOOL’S GOD-SQUAD GOALIE
Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker has made headlines for miraculous saves, but he’s also got divine backing – and he knows it.
The Brazilian keeper, who in 2021 became the first goalkeeper to score a goal for Liverpool, famously pointed to the heavens after his dramatic header and dedicated it to God.
He’s been baptised in a swimming pool, posts about Jesus online and once told reporters: “Everything I have in life, even football, is because of Him.”
Alisson even baptised teammate Roberto Firmino – in front of a live audience of Premier League stars and worshippers.
