Prayer and Bible are Katie's combination

Boxer Katie Taylor may be one of the most successful fighters of all time, but she puts all her success down to prayer and the Bible.

After winning the WBA lightweight title in 2017 and the IBF title the following year, her unification victory over Delfine Persoon in Madison Square Garden, New York, made her the eighth boxer in history (female or male) to hold all four major world titles in boxing – IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO – simultaneously.

In 2023, English fighter Chantelle Cameron became the first to defeat Taylor during her professional career. But in a return match the same year Taylor repaid the favour for the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC, and WBO titles, regaining the latter she initially won from Christina Linardatou in 2019.

Whatever happens in future bouts, Taylor, now 38 will have her faith to strengthen her.

She attends a Dublin-based Pentecostal church and has spoken of the importance of God in her life.

She told The Irish Times: “I love the fact that God chooses the lowly ones. We were a very, very poor family living in the roughest area but God chose our family and did something with us.

“I have two brothers and one sister and we all became successful. But nobody would have looked at our family or our house and thought: ‘Success will come to them’.”
