Felix crowns World Cup moment

German World Cup star Felix Nmecha scored – then laid his glory at the feet of Jesus.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder, 25, went viral after scoring in Germany’s 7-1 win over Curaçao at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After finding the net six minutes from kick-off, Nmecha dropped to one knee, acted as if taking a crown from his head, placed it down and pointed heavenward.

The power ful “crown down” celebration was quickly linked to Revelation 4:10-11, where the elders lay their crowns before God’s throne.

For Nmecha, it was a public declaration that football fame belongs under Christ’s rule.

After the game, he joined Germany team-mate Jonathan Tah and Curaçao players, including Kenji Gorré, in a prayer circle on the pitch.

Nmecha told ARD: “In the game we are opponents, but after the game we are all Christians, we are all brothers, and we believe that Jesus is glorified through the game.”

Born in Hamburg in 2000 to a German mother and Nigerian father, Nmecha moved to England as a child and came through Manchester City’s academy with older brother Lukas.

Raised in a Christian home, he told Sports World: “I always thought I was a Christian.” But at 14 or 15, he said, he came to “really put my faith in Jesus and not just follow a religion.”
