Faith was key to Big Brother winner
At the age of 60, Richard Storry made history in November by becoming the oldest winner of Big Brother UK.
What’s more remarkable is how his quietly spoken Christian faith carried him to victory.
In an interview with Premier Christianity, he explained how reading a small book of Psalms in the early mornings helped him stay grounded amid the chaos of reality TV.
Storry admitted he only applied on a whim – “without a moment of planning or even common sense,” as he put it – and immediately wondered what he had done.
He described his win as nothing short of “a miracle,” noting that he truly believed older housemates like him would be voted out early.
Few could have guessed the serene Christian from the North would emerge the winner.
In his first post-victory interview he said: “My chin hit the floor. I just wasn’t expecting to win.”
Regarding how he coped with the pressure, Storry said faith made all the difference.
The only reading material allowed beyond the show’s books was religious texts – so he took his little book of Psalms in with him.
In those stolen moments, often in the bathroom while others slept, he found solace.
As he recalled, one morning after a wave of criticism, he turned to a fresh page and read: “Fear nothing. He is always with you.”
That verse, he said, felt like a direct message from God at exactly the moment he needed it.
