Crossing led to the cross

A champagne lifestyle funded by the proceeds of crime was all David Hill dreamt about as he stepped onboard a ferry for his journey home.

But a voice really made waves as he crossed the Channel – and it made him question his life trapped in a criminal underworld.

David, from Plymouth, said the dramatic encounter with God turned his life upside down and rescued him from a future of crime, drugs and despair.

Committing crimes started young for David, including burglary, drug dealing and prison sentences across his teens and twenties.

By 25, he had already served time in approved school, borstal and prison, while plotting lucrative drug operations stretching across Europe.

But everything changed during that ferry journey back from France.

Speaking on the Crime, Carpenter and Christ podcast with Cross Rhythms Plymouth, Hill recalled how a friend began talking to him about the Bible while they were crossing the Channel.

David said: “I was planning the champagne lifestyle with fast cars and all the trappings of crime.”

Then came the moment he says changed his life forever.

“It was later, on the ferry journey, that I heard a voice in my head say, ‘Do you want to know me or do you want this life?’”

He added he instantly knew it was God calling him.

“I decided at that moment that I wanted to be a Christian and follow Jesus Christ,” David explained.
