Faith stars as worship song wins
Tears flowed and faith took centre stage when mum-of-three Hannah Harper stunned millions by winning this year’s American Idol with a Christian worship song.
The Missouri singer closed the live final in May with an emotional rendition of Chris Tomlin’s At The Cross (Love Ran Red) after host Ryan Seacrest announced her victory.
Barely able to sing through tears, Hannah, 26, worshipped openly on stage as fellow contestants gathered around her.
She became a fan favourite throughout the series thanks to her raw honesty, country vocals and outspoken Christian faith.
Her Instagram bio reads: “Only a somebody to my babies & Jesus | All for His glory.” The singer’s breakthrough moment came during her audition when she performed an original song called String Cheese, inspired by her struggle with post-partum depression after the birth of her youngest son.
Hannah explained that while praying one difficult day, she realised motherhood was “the biggest ministry” God had given her.
Judge Carrie Underwood was visibly moved, telling Harper: “That’s the most relatable song I think I’ve ever heard.”
Raised singing in her family’s bluegrass gospel band, The Harper Family, Hannah continued performing faith-filled songs throughout the competition, including Bethel Music’s Ain’t No Grave and At The Cross during the show’s Easter-themed Songs of Faith week.
