Bridge-ordeal trucker rescued after prayers
A terrified driver in a truck dangling over a bridge was rescued after a firefighter appeared at her window urging her to pray.
Sydney Thomas’s truck teetered on the edge of the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville, Kentucky, 70ft above the Ohio River.
A four-vehicle crash left her uninjured but precariously above the water for 40 minutes, when firefighter Bryce Carden appeared at her window attached to a harness.
She was already praying, and the rescuer asked if he could pray with her.
“She was praying a lot,” Carden told WHAS-TV. “And I prayed with her.”
Thomas was pulled from the cab and clung to the firefighter as they were winched to safety.
She said: “When I went through the railing, I was like, ‘Wow, this is a crazy way to die’.”
But the fright has given her a new outlook.
“God has me here for a reason and I have to fulfil my purpose in life.
“I can’t let something like that stop me from doing what I’m supposed to do for him, because he brought me out of it.
“He doesn’t want me to live in fear the rest of my life.”
