Scottie’s Masters win is thanks to the Master

When golfer Scottie Scheffler won his second Masters in three years he immediately dedicated the victory to God. And now an Olympic gold medal has added a little more shine to his world number one rating.

The 28-year-old New Jersey star is only the tenth golfer to become Masters champ twice in three years.

The latest victory was never in doubt, he told the world’s press, as it was pre-ordained.

“I believe today’s plans were already laid out many years ago, and I could do nothing to mess up those plans,” said Scheffler.

“I have been given a gift of this talent, and I use it for God’s glory.”

He added: “My buddies told me this morning, my victory was secure on the cross. And that’s a pretty special feeling, to know I’m secure forever and it doesn’t matter if I win this tournament or lose. My identity is secure forever.

“Winning this golf tournament does not change my identity.”

After his first Masters win, Scheffler had already put his profession in perspective, saying: “The reason I play golf is I’m trying to glorify God and all that he’s done in my life. So, for me, my identity isn’t a golf score.”
