Faith met football as Ohio State’s biggest college talents started their season with a Christ-centred launch that attracted thousands.

Many current Ohio State Buckeyes stars were behind the campus faith event, which was attended by OSU students and others from around the US.

It reflects the strong faith held by many of the players in the NCAA Division 1 Big Ten Conference American football team.

Former Buckeyes receiver Kamryn Babb worked with churches in the Columbus area to organise the event featuring prayer, baptisms, player testimonies and worship of God through song.

It was reported that 2,000 people attended the gathering, where players went equipped with thousands of Bibles to hand out.

Babb told the crowd: “Whatever you’re going through in life, whatever you’ve been through, I’m telling you there’s a God that desires you.”

Receiver Emeka Egbuka, one of six Buckeyes All-America selections, shared the story of his faith in Jesus.

“The world didn’t give me this joy; the world can’t take it away,” he said.

“I had this new feeling in my heart that the Holy Spirit implanted into me.

“And so since then, it was really a radical change for me. I started walking more obediently with God. I started seeking him day after day.

“He’s worked on me, and I’ve had this grace of people in my life to get to this point.”
