No-compromise Carrie sticks to beliefs
She’s sold millions of records, won Grammys, ruled the charts and is now a judge on American Idol.
But Carrie Underwood insists success never required her to compromise her Christian beliefs.
The 43-year-old Oklahoma-born star, who first shot to fame on the TV talent show in 2005, spoke out during Easter week in Hollywood, declaring: “You don’t have to … sell your soul to make it in the entertainment industry.”
Now a judge on the hit US show, Underwood returned to the stage for a special Songs of Faith episode filmed in Hollywood, California, where worship, prayer and gospel music took centre stage.
She joined contestants in a powerful performance of the hymn How Great Thou Art, turning primetime TV into what she described as moments of “worship in front of the world.”
The Nashville-based mum-of-two, married to former ice hockey star Mike Fisher, has long worn her faith proudly – from her breakthrough hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel” to her gospel album “My Saviour”.
“You don’t have to… sell your soul to make it in the entertainment industry,” she told The Christian Post.
“You are going to have to stand strong in your faith and remember who got you here, because it wasn’t you.”
