Music legend Stevie enjoying the wonder of life
For a man with “three strikes against” him from birth, music legend Stevie Wonder hardly needed the fourth ‘strike’ of a near-fatal car crash.
But the brush with death on 6 August 1973 proved to be a turning point in the life of the music icon, who’s convinced God kept him alive.
“I almost died in that car accident,” said Stevie. “But I was blessed to come out of it. God gave me life to continue to do things that I would never have done.”
Such as writing classics including ‘Superstition’, ‘Isn’t She Lovely’, ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’, selling more than 100 million records and winning 25 Grammies.
Those achievements and others came against the odds.
Stevie recalled: “Many years ago, there were those who said, ‘Well, you have three strikes against you: you’re black, you’re blind and you’re poor.’
“But God said to me, ‘I will make you rich in the spirit of inspiration, to inspire others as well as create music to encourage the world to a place of oneness and hope and positivity.’ I believed him and not them!”
He relies on God for his songs.
