Faith-filled Victor on a mission

At 252,000 miles from Earth, where silence engulfs the spacecraft and humanity feels a distant memory, one voice carried something unexpected into the void – prayer.

For Victor Glover, the 49-year-old NASA pilot on the historic Artemis II mission, faith is not left behind on Earth.

It travels with him – quite literally – tucked inside his spacecraft in the form of a Bible and communion elements.

The mission, launched on 1 April, marked the first crewed journey around the Moon in more than 50 years.

Alongside commander Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen, Glover became one of the four humans to travel farther from Earth than ever before.

But while the world marvelled at the technological triumph, many Christians were struck by something deeper – a man unashamedly proclaiming Jesus from the edge of space.

Glover, a committed Christian and Sunday school teacher from a Churches of Christ congregation in Texas, has long spoken openly about his beliefs.

His message has remained consistent, whether orbiting Earth or skimming past the Moon: “We need Jesus – whether here on Earth or orbiting the Moon.”

In the eerie quiet behind the Moon, when communications with Earth were cut for around 40 minutes, Glover invited people across the globe to join him in prayer.

“Let’s pray, hope, send your good thoughts,” he said, turning a moment of isolation into a global act of faith.

That message – of love, unity and humility – has become a defining theme of Artemis II.

Speaking from space, Glover reflected on “the beauty of creation” and the need for humanity to come together despite global tensions.
